Audenzio was born in 1855 to Giacomo La Sala, a shepherd, and Caterina Bilello. In 1882 at age 26, he married 18-year-old Rosa Calia ^[1]. Audenzio was a shepherd as a living ^[2].

Audenzio was named for his maternal grandfather, Audenzio Bilello.
